Growing Patina

Postby sideviewinn » Sun Mar 25, 2012 10:19 pm

hey folks,

i have a question. i wanna remove all my cars paint so only the bare metal remains to let some patina grow on it. now i wonder if that is possible at all in our northern european climate (Germany). Or will the car rott away under my ass faster than i can notice?

It is a Type3 Squareback which i wanna turn into a good looking rat. Is there any chance to preserve a certain stage of the patina? For example, it has full surface rust and i think thats the way i want it to look, should i put clear coating on it to stop the rust from growing more? flat one of course. or will that ruin the look?

some of these questions might come off stupid to some of you, but its my first rat look project and i wanna be sure i dont do more harm to the car than needed. So excuse me please if i ask one or another dumb ass question.

if i wanna touch the whole thing up with some pinstriping and lettering (old commercial style) i gotta wait till the rust has grown, right? Or will it look better to apply pinstriping and lettering and let it rust afterwords?

thanks for your help guys!
