Last weekend Marco and I had an amazing time on our trip from The Netherlands to Wolfsburg, from Wolfsburg to Frankfurt on to Bad Camberg and in the end back to The Netherlands again.
It was my first trip with the '51 CC Splitwindow beetle, the 'Brezel'. The total trip was little over 1300KM and it all went without any problems and an average speed of 105km/ph which is not bad for the original 60 year old engine!
We left on Thursday to Wolfsburg. There we visited Autostadt and drove to the 50-Years Type-3 meeting / camping that evening to see what was happening over there. The 50 year Type-3 meeting wasn't really a meeting, this was more an annual get together of the German and Dutch Type-3 Clubs. But there where still over 50 cars there zso it was worth the visit.
On Friday we started at Autostadt again, here we got the factory tour which was the first time for us so very interesting to see. After that we went to check out the 'Volkswagen Museum' which Marco hadn't been before and for me they had some "new" cars on display. After that we drove to Frankfurt where we got invited at the 'Barndoor Ranch' by Ben and Dennis, we arrived a little bit late but the BBQ was still on so we where in for some 'käse wurst', thanks guys. From there we left to the apartment that Claus arranged for us very near to Bad Camber where, after a last beer of that day, we spend two nights.
Saturday morning was early. The alarm clock went at 06.00, time to get up and see the show where we came for, the '9th Internationales Bad Camberger VW-Veteranen-Treffen'! We had rain all day, but despite that we had a great day! It was good to see all our friends and other people from all over the world and get together again! Se had a couple of last drinks in the tent and went back to the apartment at 00.30.
Sunday morning, not the biggest rush. We arrived at the show at 09.00 and had the best weather in the world, man I even got a little sunburn. After seeing the cars again and a scroll around the swapmeet area, where I found some small stuff for my '51, it was time to go home again… we left at 16.00 o'clock and had a good trip back home with no problems at all and a big smile on my face!
