We published the full show report of O.C.T.O. 9 June 2018 in AirMighty Magazine #32. This OCTO Meet is from a bit longer ago, but we thought it was a shame not to share these clips – which we still had on our well-stocked shelves – with you…
We still have issue #32 available in our webshop. Or stay up to date, subscribe to the magazine!
The O.C.T.O. – Orange County Transporter Organization – classic VW Bus Show is an enthusiastic non-profit organization based in Huntington Beach, California. They bring together Volkswagen enthusiasts and organise events that celebrate the passion for classic VW vans. One of their gatherings took place on 9 July 2018 and we where happy to be there and capture these shots for you.
All parking will be on a “First come – First served basis”, so we had to be on time to get a decent paring spot. This is a Volkswagen Bus event. A swap and display meet, for T1 Buses dated 1967 and earlier.
At this event, VW vans from all corners of Southern California, and even further, came together to show off their unique style and character. The atmosphere was lively, with owners sharing stories, swapping parts and celebrating their love for these iconic vehicles. We stared early to convoy with 7 Splitwindow T1 Buses to the show. It was a superb day, where we where happy to meet up again with friends from the US, Europe and even Japan.
The Long Beach Veteran’s Memorial Stadium was the stage for this gathering. With the parking filled up massively, the buses always neatly lined up, well spread across the car park so that they can be properly viewed. From restored classics to patinated originals, there was something for everyone. Visitors could walk through the rows of vans, talk to owners and enjoy the unique details of each vehicle.
Besides admiring the vans, there were also raffles with prizes, food and drinks for all attendees and plenty of traders to buy some parts, memorabilia of other VW related items you needed or just wanted to have. It was a day when the VW van community came together to share their passion and make new friends.
If you ever get the chance to attend an O.C.T.O. event, I highly recommend it. It is a great way to be part of the VW bus community and celebrate the love for these timeless vehicles.
More information: O.C.T.O. and it’s upcoming show dates you can visit their website.
Volkswagen Type 2: The event was a tribute to the iconic VW Type 2 bus, also known as the VW Transporter. These buses hold a special place in the hearts of car enthusiasts because of their unique design and history.
Surf Culture: The OCTO meeting takes place in the sunny California, of course synonymous with its surf culture. It was fitting that VW vans, with their laid-back vibe and retro looks, would come together here. Nowadays Long Beach is the home of these gatherings which take place two times a year (Summer and Winter Meet).
Customisation: Visitors could witness a wide range of customised VW vans. From hippie-style to modern makeovers, each bus had its own story and personality.
Community Spirit: The OCTO meeting is more than just a car show. It is an opportunity for like-minded people to come together, share experiences and form a community that shares a love for VW buses.
