The atmosphere at the European Bug-In was great! There was plenty of drag racing, the show and shine was full of magnificent cars. The smell of petrol and the sound of air-cooled engines filled the air as people jostled for the best spots. The campsite was busy …and full it was, by all accounts this was the busiest EBI ever attended, great to see and hear that this VW scene is still alive and kicking!
Besides the vibrant atmosphere and exciting activities at the European Bug-In #10 in Chimay, Belgium, there was a special corner that made VW enthusiasts’ hearts beat faster: the Cal Look Display. This was a tribute to the timeless style of air-cooled Volkswagens.
The California Look phenomenon originated in the 1960s and 1970s in California, USA. It is all about minimalism and performance. The characteristics of a Cal Look VW are:
– Clean lines: No unnecessary chrome details or trims. Everything is streamlined.
– Ass Up, Nose Down: A low ride height for an aggressive look.
– Smooth body: Door handles, emblems and even the rain gutters were removed for a clean look.
– Performance upgrades: Powerful engines, custom exhausts and lightweight parts.
Some of the most stunning Cal Look VWs were on display at the European Bug-In #10. Visitors could enjoy the perfect balance of vintage charm and modern performance. There were Cal Lookers from all over Europe and far beyond – like coming from America and het guys at FLAT4 Japan even had a car brought over from their shop in Yokohama!
Whether you are a seasoned VW connoisseur or just curious about Cal Look culture, the display offered a visual feast. The clean lines, glossy and colorful paintwork and personalized details on all these cars were a high level and great to spent many hours of drooling over these amazing VWs.
Herewith, we have put together a video with video’s many show visitors made and where send it to us so we can put together this little after-movie. To be honest, we received almost 2,5 hours of footage, we had to bring and trim back to this 22 minutes video.
Thanks everyone for contributing, and hopefully this allows you to look back, enjoy and look forward to another great European Bug-In weekend.
